2026 Gin Trap Pairs

The Gin Trap Charity Pairs was held at BCC and attracted 14 pairs.

The 3 group winners all won their 3 group games with Simon Doble and Steve Welford ending with +31 points difference to be seeded No 1.

2nd seeds were Myra and Adrian Emson from the Chiltern region with +30, and 3rd seeds Akil Vasram and Ved Teelochun with +21.

Simon and Steve comfortably beat Nikki Acott and Peter Etheridge 13-5 to set up a SF against Akil and Ved, who had beaten Marty and Jimmy Howe 13-7.

The big surprise was Myra and Adrian’s loss against Rachel Bergstrom and Kevin Cumming, who scored 6 on the last end to win 13-10. This set up a SF tie with Cheryl and Tony Morgan who won a lengthy game 13-8 against Allen Kemp and Josh Wilcox.

Simon and Steve made short work of Akil and Ved, winning 13-2, which left them with a long wait whilst Rachel and Kevin endured a long and tight game to win 13-9 against Cheryl and Tony. Kevin popping the Jack out to give them an easy 3 being the deciding factor.

By the time the final was played, a strong gusty wind was blowing, making it difficult for players to stand still, and a scrappy game followed with neither team showing their previous form. In the end Simon and Steve always looked the likely winners, coming out on top 13-9.

In the Plate, Russel Morris and Jez Fry started to play like players who were on their home terrain and they beat Pete and Paul Hardy, also from BCC 13-10.

The winners get to choose the charity the that will be supported from the event and this year Simon & Steve have selected Suffolk Mind. Suffolk Mind – Suffolk’s independent mental health charity
